Human Resources is committed to enhancing professional development opportunities for our campus leaders. In 2023, two new leadership development series were launched and existing management programs were updated. The curriculum was shaped by current leadership challenges faced by organizations around the country, UA-specific training needs identified through available UA data, and the direct input of  an ad-hoc Leadership Development Curriculum Committee. Information about the new and updated series, additional course offerings and new resources is described below.


New! Leadership Development Series

Launched Spring 2023, these new series are intended for high performing individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing their leadership skills to perform more effectively in their current role, as well as to prepare for future career advancement opportunities. Each series addresses the unique needs of leaders at various levels of our organization.

Comprised of six full days of learning experiences over the course of three months, registration for each new series is coordinated via a Call for Nominations from senior leadership.   

Front-Line Supervisor Series  

Target Audience: Intended for individuals who are early career supervisors and/or manage other non-supervisory employees.

Through interactive exercises and discussions, this training helps new supervisors develop the communication, coaching, and performance management skills needed to supervise employees and lead teams effectively. Topics covered:

Next-Level Leader Series 

Target Audience: Intended for managers who have direct supervisory responsibilities for other managers or supervisors.

Through interactive exercises and discussions, this training helps existing managers develop the skills needed to lead teams and departments effectively by discovering new insights and practicing techniques to empower, motivate, lead and inspire. Topics covered:

Updated! UA Essentials for Management Series 

Intended for all employees with supervisory responsibilities, this series builds on the original UA Essentials for Management content, includes new subject matter experts, new engaging activities, and the inclusion of online materials to support and enhance the instructor-led learning experience.  This series includes four half-day modules offered each semester. For descriptions and current offerings select a module title.


Regularly Offered Management Development Workshops

New Management Orientation  This half-day workshop is for those who are new to a supervisory/management position and will be supervising non-student staff.  

Leave & Accommodations Training for Supervisors  This course explains the rights and responsibilities of supervisors as it relates to The Family and Medical Leave Act (FML), The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the new Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) Act.

Necessary Knowledge – Third-Party Resolution for Supervisors  This half-day workshop will teach participants how to proactively manage workplace conflict.

Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue  The new version of this nationally recognized course gives people the skills to step into disagreement rather than over or around it for improved relationships and results.
