A new comprehensive UA staff compensation policy pulls together various existing and revised policies and practices dealing with staff pay in a more efficient way, making it easier to find and understand related rules and processes.
The policy includes minor updates and revisions to existing policies on compensable time, supplemental pay, and compensation during suspension of normal operations.
The most notable change is the discontinuation of the process to apply for automatic compensation increases for additional degrees, certifications and licenses, though the new comprehensive policy continues to allow for consideration of additional relevant job-enhancing credentials as part of the existing staff salary adjustment process.
Other important points to note:
- Current approvals for compensation under the phased-out policy will be honored. New applications will no longer be considered.
- The change does not affect the University’s generous free and reduced tuition education benefit for employees and immediate family members.
- The University will continue to offer consideration for staff salary adjustments based on additional relevant job-enhancing qualifications through the normal review process beginning with a request to Human Resources via department, college and division management.
The University requires periodic reviews of policies. Part of the review process requires comparison with other institutions in the UA System, and neither UAB nor UAH offer additional degree compensation policies. Further, only one other institution in the Southeastern Conference currently provides something similar.
