First Level Supervision Series

This series provides participants with proven fundamental skills for supervising others while furthering the University's goals.  Through realistic situations that typically confront individuals who supervise others, participants gain skills necessary to create a workplace where people are encouraged to grow and develop in an environment of mutual trust.  Topics covered will include:

  • Nuts and Bolts" of Supervision - Learn to understand how basic principles of supervision and management relate to UA guidelines, documents and procedures, and identify references and resources available to assist supervisors with legal matters related to employment.
  • Communicating Effectively to Employees about Work - Learn to use techniques to maintain employee self-esteem while communicating about work requirements, evaluating performance, correcting work habits, dealing with complaints and resolving conflicts.
  • Dealing Effectively with Behaviors - Learn to identify desirable and undesirable behaviors, recognize and reinforce positive behavior, and demand improvements in work-related behaviors.
