In order to meet state and federal requirements as well as University policy, University employees and students may be required to take mandatory training on specific topics. Many of the mandatory compliance training topics must have the course or a refresher course completed on an annual basis.
UA Faculty, Staff and Student Employees
All new faculty, staff and student employees are currently required to take training on Child Protection Policy, Harassment and Hazard Communication. Annual training and/or updates on certain topics may be required. For 2016, this will include training on Harassment and a brief update on Hazard Communication. Additionally, other compliance training may be required based on an employee’s job duties e.g. HIPAA Privacy and Security or health and safety topics such as Lab Safety, Radiation Safety, Fire Safety, etc. Additionally, faculty and staff who meet certain state and University requirements must take online training on the Alabama State Ethics Laws.
The Training Academy online learning system is used to provide required compliance training to University employees and students. Faculty, staff and student employees will be notified of required training through their supervisors and by email notification sent to the employees’ myBama (or Crimson) email address. New hires will be assigned the required training and receive the email notification within two weeks of their hire date once they’ve been added to our payroll system.
Annual Mandated Compliance Training Requirements for Employees

Employees will receive an email notification about the annual training requirement approximately 60 to 90 days prior to the annual due date.
Students may be assigned required health and safety training courses by the Environmental Health and Safety department based on various factors such as: enrollment in specific UA courses (labs), research activity, or on campus residence.
Child Protection Policy Training
Students must complete Child Protection Policy training if they are involved with UA activities interacting with children under the age of 18. Students may also be required to complete Child Protection Policy training due to their involvement in other UA activities. For example, presidents of registered student organizations may be asked to complete training as part of the student organization registration process.

Some training requirements may apply to non-UA individuals. For example, all employees, counselors, representatives, chaperones, and volunteers associated with any program and/or camp taking place on campus or other property owned by The University of Alabama involving children under the age of 18 are required to successfully complete the Child Protection Policy training and certification prior to the start of the program and/or camp. Additionally, some third-party vendors and their employees and representatives with an ongoing presence on campus must complete the Child Protection Policy training as well as part of their contractual obligations.
