Evaluation Process
Each Vice President,
Dean, Director or Department Head should ensure that an annual performance evaluation and the establishment of goals
and objectives (if applicable) are accomplished for each staff employee
within his or her area of responsibility. The employee's immediate
supervisor should complete the form, conduct the evaluation
and set goals with the employee.
The supervisor
at the next level above the employee's immediate supervisor
should review all performance evaluations prepared by the
supervisors under him/her PRIOR to the review with the employee.
Upon approval by
the next level supervisor, the employee's supervisor should
review and discuss the evaluation with the employee. The employee
is afforded an opportunity to review his or her performance
evaluation and sign the form verifying the review has been
discussed. The employee's signature does not necessarily indicate
agreement with the evaluation. The evaluation review should
be conducted in a face-to-face meeting by the immediate supervisor.
Copies may be issued
to the employee and maintained in the department. All original
employee evaluations should be forwarded to Human Resources,
303 Rose Administration or Box 870126 to be recorded and filed.
General Information
The evaluation
period runs from June 1 through May 31. Employees who have
not completed their introductory period as of May 31 should
be given the appropriate appraisal upon completion of their
six months introductory period. However, you should conduct
a goal planning session with ALL employees under your supervision
to determine goals and objectives. If you have Post Doctoral
employees, it is not necessary to conduct annual evaluations
on these employees.
For consistency,
it is important that every department use The University of
Alabama Annual Employee Performance Evaluation forms. Please contact Human Resources if you need to use a special form for accreditation or other specialty needs.
