EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAMS

THE VERGIL PARKS McKINLEY, SR. EMPLOYEE AWARD

John K. McKinley and the late Helen H. McKinley of Darien, Connecticut, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, established an award to recognize enterprising employees, who by action or idea, contribute to The University of Alabama's mission of teaching, research and service.  The award is in honor of Dr. Vergil Parks McKinley, a long-time professor at the University of Alabama.

After receiving degrees at Columbia, Dr. McKinley came to The University of Alabama in 1918 and retired in 1945 as head of the Trade and Industrial Development Department in the College of Education. His impeccable character was his hallmark and endeared him to his students and peers.

GUIDELINES

  1. There will be a quarterly award of $1200.
  2. Any Supervisor may nominate any eligible employee who reports directly to him or her.
  3. Nominations shall be submitted to the Employee Awards Selection Committee on the official Employee Award Form.
  4. The Committee is comprised of Mr. John K. McKinley and several University representatives, or their designees, as stated in the Memorandum of Agreement.
  5. The Employee Awards Selection Committee shall make their selection based on the nominated employee having made a recent and especially enterprising contribution to The University. All University of Alabama employees are eligible for the award, but special consideration will be given to non-faculty and non-student staff employees.
  6. Forms can be accessed on our FORMS page.

The Selection Committee will consider any nomination for a period of one (1) year from the date of submission. A new nomination will then need to be submitted in order to have the employee considered.
