TIME OFF BENEFITS

ANNUAL LEAVE (VACATION)

  • Administrative staff earn a maximum of 22 days annual leave per calendar year.
  • Teaching Faculty - N/A
  • Non-exempt staff earn vacation in proportion to their length of service (12-22 days per calendar year).

HOLIDAYS - Variable days to include MLK Birthday, Spring Break, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day. For a current schedule, link here.

SICK LEAVE - Regular full-time and regular part-time staff who have sufficient accruals of sick leave will be paid for authorized absences resulting from sickness or injury. Regular full-time staff accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) day per calendar month. There is no limit to the number of days that can be accrued.

FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE - Employees who meet eligibility criteria may take up to 12 weeks of family and medical leave within any 12 month rolling period and be restored to the same or an equivalent position upon their return from leave.

FUNERAL LEAVE - Upon the death of immediate family members, regular part-time and regular full-time employees may be given up to three (3) workdays of administrative leave per occurrence. Regular part-time employees will be paid leave days prorated on their normally scheduled work hours. Funeral leave will not be charged to accrued annual or sick leave.

MILITARY LEAVE - All staff who are active members of the Alabama National Guard or of any other reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States are eligible for a military leave of absence for performance of military duty. Time spent on military leave, (whether paid or unpaid), is not considered a break in employment.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PERSONAL REASONS - Under certain conditions, employees may request to take up to 12 weeks of leave within any 12 month period and be restored to the same or equivalent position upon return. An unpaid leave of absence may be requested for 6 months to attend classes at The University of Alabama as a full-time student. If approved, only one such educational leave may be considered and is subject to the same provisions as other leaves of absence.
